Deep tissue massage is where you have aches and pains where more excessive pressure is applied to remove knots from the body and help loosen up muscles and stretch.
The massage maybe 1 Hour long, but it is not an hour of pain. So what happens? Each massage therapist has their own techniques and ways to combate tightness. In this case most people are looking from relief of tight, sore muscles and or tightness. First we talk about the problem and how and what will be done. Sometimes you may have a tight shoulder, but, the problem may come from other areas. It is best to understand the problem and deal with the cause. The Massage In my experience, it starts with warming the areas to work on with long strokes to help loosen the muscles, skin and allow the blood to flow more freely. Just to push hard on a spot which has not been released will be very sore to the client. After a short period, deep massage, working the muscles could be used or Trigger point, where you use a thumb to press on a tight knot in the body. Sometimes you will feel a referral like trace moving in or near the area, etc. The pressure is usually not more than 70% of your pain tolerance, and sometimes a lot less than that. At times stretching will be used to help blood flow and loosening of the joint, etc. Towards the end of the massage, the muscles will be lightly massaged and some form of tapping is used. It is like a light series of taps from hands to help release blood deep in the muscle to come to the surface to clear toxins. At the end, it always pays to have a glass of water and feel better.
